Brady Exhibit Opens at Betty Brinn Children’s Museum

July 30, 2010- The Brady Corporation Jr. exhibit at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum opened this morning, much to the excitement of children visiting the museum. Brady Corporation Foundation funded the exhibit with a $150,000 grant over three years.

Brady Corporation Jr., a permanent exhibit at the museum, is a simulated manufacturing environment appropriate for kids. They can tryout different roles to prepare, assemble, and pack a variety of safety signs like those manufactured at Brady and have fun as they learn the importance of manufacturing and producing a quality product. When “production” is complete, an interactive map, conveyor system and overhead hoist will help the young “workers” ship their finished products around the world. Continue reading

ASQ Expands Social Responsibility Portfolio in Advance of October ISO 26000 Standard Release

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, July 12, 2010—A new international standard on social responsibility (SR), ISO 26000, Guidance on Social Responsibility, will be made available October 15, 2010 through ASQ (American Society for Quality). ASQ serves as the U.S. TAG (Technical Advisory Group) secretariat to ISO Working Group 26, developers of ISO 26000. Specific information about ISO 26000 can be found here.

The standard focuses on seven key aspects of social responsibility: organizational governance, community involvement and development, environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, labor practices and human rights. While ASQ embodies and supports all seven subjects, it initially is concentrating on the areas that will deliver the greatest value to the quality community: organizational governance; environment; and community involvement and development. Milwaukee Rotary Centennial Arboretum Kicks Off First Tree Planting Tues, June 29

Milwaukee, WI –  Rotary Club of Milwaukee’s ambitious plans for the City’s first arboretum begin when the first tree is planted on the 40 acre site Tuesday morning, June 29.  The 10:30 a.m. ceremony will occur just to the west of the Urban Ecology Center –a primary partner behind this endeavor– at 1500 East Park Place in Milwaukee. The event will include remarks by Mayor Tom Barrett and County Parks Director Sue Black, and newly installed Rotary International President Ray Klinginsmith in his first public appearance.  Significant Rotarian donors will be honored, including the major benefactor, who will be revealed at this event. MATC Receives $740,364 in Funding from U.S. Department of Energy

MILWAUKEE (June 17, 2010) – The United States Department of Energy and U.S. Senator Herb Kohl announced today that Milwaukee Area Technical College is one of four Wisconsin educational institutions/companies that will receive funding from the Department of Energy for Advanced Energy-Efficient Building Technologies and Commercial Building Training Programs. Fifty-eight projects will receive more than $76 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Continue Reading.

Potawatomi Bingo Casino Recognized For Its Responsible Gaming Efforts

Potawatomi Bingo Casino will be given the Corporate Social Responsibility Award from the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) at its annual conference in Portland, Ore., on Friday, June 11.

The mission of the NCPG is to increase public awareness of problem gambling, ensure the widespread availability of treatment for problem gamblers and their families and to encourage research and programs for prevention and education. Continue reading.
